The Importance of Intellectual Property for Business Owners

On today’s edition of “The Advisors”, my partner, Greg Perleberg, and I discussed why business owners need to think early on in their business planning process about what intellectual property issues will or could affect their business.  Our discussion included not just what items of protection the business owner should seek for his or her own ideas (patents, trademarks, copyrights, and the like), but also how intellectual property issues play a role in the initial stage business planning and how a failure to account for another’s intellectual property could result in added expense at a later date to change logos, names and slogans to avoid an infringement claim.
